Home Is Where the Heart Is

They say that "Home is Where the Heart Is." Having moved recently, of course, I believe that to be true. We are feeling at home here and have already shared meals with two sets of friends (because the friends brought us meals) in our new home, have had friends come by with food and for quick tours, have had sweet little children running on the wood floors, playing on the banisters of the front porch and swinging on the porch swing with Mr. Rodney or "Ra Ra." We are getting rooms ready for our girls, putting mattresses under beds and making plans for areas we can entertain when we have our Frye get-togethers in eager anticipation of making memories in our new home with friends and family.

As I said yesterday, I went to my hometown of Harlingen for the day. I have not lived in Harlingen for over 25 years and had not been there for at least ten years until this week. My childhood friend's younger sister passed away, and I knew when I heard the news that I wanted to go despite the craziness of the recent move. As you can see from the following pictures, I took a walk down memory lane and was blessed to be with a dear family in the midst of their grief.

This is the house I grew up in until early high school in Harlingen.
Left: Side view of this neat, old house, where my parents taught me the love for old houses!
Right: Yuck! This is what it looks like now. You can't even see the cute little balcony that is off of the huge attic bedroom my sister and I shared for years.

This is the house I lived in during high school and college. My parents moved out of this house when Molly was a baby.

This is the house my mom still misses from Harlingen and is where we brought our kids to Nanny and Papah's when they were little.

This is my mom's friend's store where we were able to get gorgeous bows, shoes, and clothes for the girls when they were little. I enjoyed my short but sweet visit with Colleen!

The highlight of my day in Harlingen was spending time playing with these three little cuties as I joined others in gathering to pay respects to their Mommy, Grammy and Grampy over the loss of their Aunt Margie.

Finally, I ended my visit with a lunch/dinner at 4:00 to Las Vegas, a landmark must-visit Mexican restaurant that is a necessity for anyone who visits Harlingen (even if it is just for the day)!
